DataSource intends to compete for NAVSEA’s upcoming NMMES (Navy Maritime Maintenance Enterprise System) contract, which the Navy has recently confirmed will be a total small business set-aside. Position Summary: The Database Administrator is responsible for management of one or more NMMES databases, including data modeling and database design when needed to support application requirements and/or NMMES program objectives. The Database Administrator will be responsible for ensuring that the database(s) performance and security objectives and standards are met for the NMMES programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Designs, creates, and maintains all facets of the database, including logical models as well as physical table spaces, data files, tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages, stored procedures, etc.
  • Ensures that the database conforms to performance requirements and security standards for the NMMES program and that best practices for database management are implemented to optimize performance, availability, recovery, and space management. Is proactive in detecting potential security threats.
  • Maintains data dictionaries for all persisted data.
  • Performs required Oracle upgrades and patches, data base tuning, backups, etc.
  • Advises application development staff on best coding practices for database access in order to optimize performance.
  • Report progress as directed to the Project Manager.
  • Other duties, as assigned, related to application software development and maintenance activities according to Program standards, such as Quality Assurance reviews and support, metrics gathering and reporting, support for project planning and scheduling, etc.
  • Installs and migrates new database versions, working closely with other NMMES groups and DBA’s, and supports multiple database environments (development/test, production, etc.)
  • Tests and troubleshoots database related errors in support of application enhancements and upgrades, and system readiness.
  • Performs User Access Management (UAM) duties to ensure that appropriate personnel have access to the database according to specified need and authority.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree at an accredited university or college, preferably in a field related to Information Systems. Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Appropriate number of years’ experience in the computer/application development industry based on level (Senior: 8 years, Mid-level: 4 years).
  • DBA experience relating to one or more NMMES applications. NMMES applications encompass both SMLIS and National Systems, and include: COST, MAT, MRQT, AIM/AIM XP/Web AIM, PSS, SUPDESK, SABRS, PPP, QDB, NWPS (PMC, SPF, QPS), CLL, ATMS, OSHRKS, SAEM, CDMD-OA, NDE, NMD, ORCAS, PARTS, LIMS, ARCMIS, eFEM, and others.
  • Considerable Oracle DBA experience (including 11G and OLTP).
  • Experience in logical and physical database design.
  • Experience in the development of table spaces, data files, tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages, stored procedures, etc.
  • Experience in performing database backups and failover.
  • Experience in performance tuning and implementation of stringent security features.
  • Unix experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently or within a team.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex and challenging problems.
  • Works well in a dynamic work environment.
  • Must be able to obtain a DOD Secret-level Security Clearance.
